Pink Shirt Day
Today is Pink Shirt Day! We encourage all students and staff to wear a Pink Shirt to help spread kindness and a sense of belonging.
Our grade 4 students have an exciting field trip to the Hitmen Be Brave Game. Each grade 4 student will receive their own Pink Shirt.
This will be a memorable trip to the Saddledome, with the opportunity to see a hockey game, but also to take a STAND TOGETHER against bullying. Over 10 000 Calgary and area students will be in attendance for the 8th annual Telus-sponsored event to learn about the importance of acceptance and bullying prevention from guest speakers, concourse displays and in-game activities.
All classes in the school have been focusing on Kindness during the month of February. Students have been extending “acts of kindness towards others” and have been experiencing the ripple effect of giving joy to others while also feeling a sense of satisfaction and fulfilment themselves from being kind.
Black History Month
Students throughout the CBE and here at MTS have been learning about Black History Month. Our students have learned about and discussed what Black History Month is and the history of how it started.. Throughout the month, they will be reading a variety of books and learning about other Black Canadians who have impacted Canada, both in history and in the present day. They will be learning how they showed perseverance and resilience to stand up for what they believed in and fight for the rights they deserved.
The link below is to a playlist of CBC kids videos, books, short stories etc. if your family is looking to explore more on Black History Month.

CUPE Local 40 Job Action
As you are likely aware, CUPE Local 40 members have served strike notice to the Calgary Board of Education. The union, which includes school facilities and cleaning staff, withdrew services on Monday February 24.
Information to families regarding the strike action will be communicated centrally by the CBE – not by individual schools.
The following link will take you to extensive information and updates regarding the strike: CBE Labour Action Page
Grade 2 Assembly
All grade 2 classes have been investigating the arctic region of Canada. As part of our social studies curriculum, students have been exploring Canada’s dynamic communities. Students are now finishing learning about Iqaluit, Nunavut. They have discovered interesting facts about the Inuit cultural, celebrations and traditions, art, landscapes, and animals.
We hope that parents can join us for this celebration of learning. The assembly will be held this Thursday at 1:30pm.
