Community Walks

Today, Mr. van Slyus will be introducing a regular community walk routine as part of our physical education classes. These walks will provide students with an opportunity to be active, get outside, and enjoy our school community.  Walking is proven to increase physical and emotional health, and aligns with the Alberta PE/Wellness curriculum.  Community walks will stay within 1.5 kilometers of the school, so no paperwork needs to be filled out for students to participate.  If you do not want your child to participate please contact their classroom teacher or Mr. van Sluys (mbvansluys@cbe.ab.ca).

Please ensure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather on walk days.

Terry Fox Run

MTS Terry Fox run will take place on Wednesday, September 23 at 9:00 am.

We encourage students to bring in a toonie for Terry. Our fundraising goal is $1200, which is approximately a toonie for every student and staff member in the school.

Mr. V is in need of 5-8 volunteers for each grade to make it a successful event.  Volunteers will be asked to help mark students' hands (so they can track their laps), and help with clean-up afterwards. Volunteers will be needed from 8:45am – 10:00am.

For parents and guardians who have completed their Annual Volunteer Clearance, you will receive a Sign-Up Genius from the MTSPA Volunteer Co-Ordinator.

MTS Open House

McKenzie Towne School will be hosting an Open House for students and their families on Thursday September 24. Doors will be open at 5:00pm.

This will give you an opportunity to meet your student's teacher and see the school.

Mrs. McLean, our lovely librarian, will also be hosting a Book Sale in the library.

If you are interested in attending this informal event, please feel free to pop into the school any time between 5:00pm and 6:30pm.

Hope to see you there!

Food Support

Did you know that the Breakfast Club of Canada has shared research demonstrating that 40% of Alberta’s children experience food insecurity?  This means that 4 out of 10 children do not have access to food when they are hungry.

If your family is experiencing challenges with providing food for your children you can find help at Brown Bagging Calgary.

Complete this form for support and they can deliver lunches to McKenzie Towne School for your children. https://go.bb4ck.org/l/858913/2024-01-15/38fdbw You can also find out more information on their website https://bb4ck.org/
