Here are a few important updates for your information.
Welcome Back Pancake Breakfast
On Monday, March 30, McKenzie Towne School will be hosting a pancake breakfast for all students!
Using federal funds from the National Food program agreement, the CBE has received funding and allocated resources to schools. These funds are to be used by March 31, 2026 and may be used by schools to cover costs related to providing a nutritious meal such as breakfast to students.
The school has engaged a professional catering food service company who will set up service and cooking on site in the school gym. Students will assemble in the gym at two different seating times in the morning and enjoy a sit-down breakfast prepared for them that includes two pancakes and a fruit salad. Thank you to the volunteers who have offered to help with the morning. It should be a great community event to kick-off the final spring term.
Children should have their normal breakfast before coming to school as the pancake breakfast will occur a little later in the morning. Students and staff are invited to dress western since that’s what we do when we eat pancakes in Calgary!!
Complexity Funding Initiative
Our school has been identified by the Ministry of Education and Childcare to receive funding to establish a classroom complexity team. The government has specified that each team will consist of one teacher and two education assistants (EAs). Their role is to provide targeted support aligned to areas of demonstrated classroom complexity. The classroom complexity team will help with:
- Inclusive classroom strategies
- Classroom organization and differentiation
- Targeted support to respond to diverse learner needs related to literacy, numeracy, EAL student learning and social emotional, and behavioural well-being
The school is in the process of staffing these positions that will begin after the spring break. These positions will support NOT replace existing classroom organization, teaching and EA configurations currently existing in the school.
Spring Concert
McKenzie Towne School is excited to present "Singing Through the Seasons," our Spring Concert for the Grade 2 and 3 classes on Thursday April 23rd.
The dress rehearsal is open to families to come watch. Please note, there may be pauses during this performance to fine tune some details.
Dress Rehearsal:
Grade 2: 11:00
Grade 3: 1:30
Evening Performance:
Grade 2: 5:00 (doors open at 4:30)
Grade 3: 6:30 (doors open at 6:00)
