It is hard to believe that we are into the home stretch of the school year with a “count down” in weeks rather than months! The end of the year home stretch is both an exciting and important time of the school year as it is filled with many important school events and organizational planning issues related to next year. Planning for Next Year As we work through the rest of this school year, we have also begun the planning for 2025 - 26. Our planning includes amongst other things, resource allocation, staffing, and class organization for next year. Please know that as a staff of teachers and administrators, we engage in a very thorough process in assigning students to classes that involves a multiplicity of variables. Our dedication and thoughtfulness will again be brought to the assignment of students to classes over the next month as we plan for the new school year. We cannot honour parental requests for specific teachers, but please know that you may contact administration (not teachers) if there are issues/concerns that you would like us to consider in the organization of classes related specifically to your child. Families or individual children who will not be returning to MTS for the 2025-2026 school year are requested to let the school know as soon as possible Since class lists change over the summer, we will not be releasing the class organization until the return to school when you will receive an introductory email from your child’s teacher for the 2025-26 school year. Looking Forward to June The month of June includes many special events, field trips and celebrations. Please check teacher blogs and School Messenger notices for detailed information on school and class events For our grade 4 students and students in grade 3 whose families have chosen for them to attend McKenzie Highlands, it is a time to say farewell to the school they know and love as they move on to new adventures in learning. Taking their place will be a new crop of kindergarten students who will be starting school. Our commitment at MTS is to provide the best possible learning experience for young learners so that they remain engaged and motivated through their school days. The last day of the school term is Thursday, June 26. This will be an early dismissal day at 12:00pm. Kindergarten celebration assembly will take place at 9:30am on June 26 in the gym. All kindergarten students will attend school from 8:00am-10:30am. Parents and other family members are invited to attend. There will be a short farewell assembly for grades 1-4 at 11:15 that day as well. Friday, June 27 is Appeals Day, a non-instructional day for students. This is your opportunity to contact your child's teacher by email or phone to ask them any questions you might have about the report card. The school office will be open from 8:00 – 1:00 pm on June 27 and then will be closed for the summer. Your child's report card will be available to view, download and/or print starting from June 25, 2025 to July 25, 2025. Parents / Legal Guardians can sign into MyCBE to view student information, including report cards, comments from teachers, assignments and grades, and attendance information. Interior Painting The painting of the interior of our school has now been completed. The process has taken place over the last 2 months and has included all of our open spaces, library, offices, staff area, hallways, and all entrances. Our students were extremely cooperative during the paining process and were actually quite intrigued to see the large lifts that were used to transport the painters to the high levels of the school. The dominant accent colour in the school is a lovely blue which provides a calm and serene backdrop for the artefacts and student art work in our school. The painting included the provision of updated signage in the school including at the entrance to our Learning Commons, in the library area, office welcoming signage in the multiple languages represented in our school, an addition of our motto and school logo in the west open area and the addition of the Indigenous medicine wheel as a focal point in our library. We look forward to seeing you in the school enjoying our bright new spaces. The repaint received a big “thumbs up” from our students who love the fresh colours and MTS identity pieces that have been added to the school. Thank you I would like to thank all parents who support MTS in so many ways. We look forward to saying thank you at our Volunteer Tea on June 13 at 10:30. If you have not received your invitation please call the school to let us know you will be attending. Our grade 1 and 2 choir will provide the entertainment. We appreciate family and friends who attended our recent bake sale held in conjunction with our grades 1 and 2 spring concert. Thanks to our Music Specialist Mrs. Darr, teaching staff, and parent volunteers who contributed to a highly successful event! The grade 4 farewell will take place on June 20 at 11:00 am in the gym. We will be saying farewell to our grade 4 students who will be moving to a new school. Family members are invited to attend. We appreciate that in working together we have built and continue to sustain a strong and vibrant learning environment at McKenzie Towne. Lorraine Slater, Principal |
